Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

  • Education:

    • Identify and meet personal learning needs.
    • Attend education programs based on identified needs.
    • Use patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
    • Assess readiness to learn of patients and families.
  • Evaluation of Care:

    • Identify expected patient outcomes.
    • Participate in discussions with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient care.
    • Communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care.
  • Implementation:

    • Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems.
    • Perform bedside point of care testing as required.
    • Organize and prioritize care according to patient/family needs.
  • Leadership:

    • Develop goals for professional growth.
    • Participate in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
    • Promote cost-effective care and provide feedback to co-workers.
  • Patient Assessment:

    • Recognize data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
    • Assess and anticipate discharge needs of patients and families.
  • Planning:

    • Collaborate with patients/families to prepare or update care plans.
    • Address cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care.
  • Research:

    • Read relevant journals and bring ideas to staff for assessment.
