Job Summary

Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Radiology Interventional Technologist specializes in performing invasive procedures to aid in the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Explain examination procedures to patients and prepare them for examinations.
  • Obtain additional information about the patient's medical history as necessary.
  • Prepare prescribed contrast media, medications, and IV solutions for administration to patients.
  • Review clinical data, analyze anatomical structures, set up equipment, and assist the Radiologist in performing complex diagnostic invasive procedures.
  • Prepare and set up sterile equipment, physiological monitors, pressure injectors, and imaging equipment required for procedures.
  • Ensure adequate supplies (needles, catheters, etc.) are on hand and properly stored; replenish supplies as appropriate.
  • Actively assess patient condition before, during, and after all procedures.
  • Manually control equipment to obtain proper diagnostic information.
  • Assist with the training of new personnel and/or students assigned to the division.
  • Perform all imaging procedures while demonstrating principles of radiation protection.
  • Resolve image exceptions and ensure high-quality image delivery into PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System).
  • Complete all study indexing in the Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Demonstrate Team Member Standards of Excellence, including open communication, positive attitude, and respect for diversity.
  • Perform Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate and document in the medical record and radiology information system.
