Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Essential Duties
Education:
- Identifies and meets personal learning needs.
- Attends education programs based on identified needs.
- Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
- Assesses readiness to learn of patients and families.
Evaluation of Care:
- Identifies expected patient outcomes and revises care plans as needed.
- Participates in discussions with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient care.
- Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
Implementation:
- Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems.
- Performs bedside point of care testing as required.
- Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient/family needs.
- Consults with appropriate resources regarding complex care issues.
Leadership:
- Develops goals for professional growth.
- Participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Promotes cost-effective care and provides feedback to co-workers.
Patient Assessment:
- Recognizes data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
- Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of patients and families.
- Develops relationships with families to advocate for patient needs.
Planning:
- Collaborates with patients/families to prepare or update care plans.
- Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in patient care.
Research:
- Engages with relevant journals and brings ideas to staff for assessment.

- One (1) year of nursing experience.
