Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (SICU)

Location

  • City: Washington, DC
  • Facility: Medstar Washington Hospital Center

Employment Details

  • Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 3 or 4 x 12 hours (Day/Night) from 0700-1930/1900-0730
  • Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend required; holiday coverage as needed
  • On Call Requirements: No call requirements
  • Float Requirement: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower level of acuity

Job Description

  • Position for a Registered Nurse in the SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit).
  • Experience in a teaching hospital is preferred.

Requirements

  • Licensure:
    • DC RN licensure required (Pending DC license accepted but must have license prior to start date).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in SICU.
    • At least 1 prior travel assignment completed (first-time travelers will be screened).
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Certification
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Experience with pulmonary artery lines, IV starts, and phlebotomy.
    • Neuro ICU certification preferred.
  • Special Equipment Knowledge:
    • CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy), Bolt, and EVD (External Ventricular Drain).

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Flu Vaccine: Required for all employees.
  • Physical Exam: Annual physical stating the candidate is able to perform work without accommodations and is free from communicable disease.
  • Vaccinations:
    • COVID-19 Vaccine (Dose 1 and 2 if applicable)
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years recommended for positions with exposure to children and infants.
    • Negative TB or Chest X-Ray required.
  • Drug Screen: Required within 90 days of start (does not include marijuana).

Additional Information

  • Background Check: Required within 90 days of start, including criminal background check and education verification.
  • References: Two positive supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment.
  • Work History Verification: Minimum of two years of experience required, with at least one travel assignment completed.
