Job Description
- Unit Type: Runs more like an ICU; strong drip experience is a must.
- Target Ratios: 3:1 or 4:1
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12 HR NIGHTS; 18:45 - 07:15
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Float Requirement: Floating required as needed to sister unit (ICCU).
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum Experience: 2 years
- Traveler Experience: Accepts first-time travelers
- Required Skills:
- Experience with arterial lines and titrating vasoactive drips
- PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, Telemetry
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- IV insulin protocols, Blood Product Administration
- Central and Peripheral Line Care/Management
- Tracheostomy Management, Isolation Precautions
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH (National Institutes of Health) certifications
- Experience with IV start, telemetry, and conscious sedation
Patient Population
- Age Range: Adolescent, adult, geriatric
- Common Diagnoses: Respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, post-op complications.
Special Procedures/Unit Details
- Only one pressor drip per patient; additional drips require transfer to ICU.
- Medications administered include Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Levophed, etc.
Equipment and Systems
- Monitoring: Bedside telemetry monitors
- Systems Used: Pyxis and Epic
Additional Information
- Scrubs: Navy, White, or a combination
- Orientation: Hospital orientation required in the first week; must be available for classes each day.
- EKG Testing: Must pass prior to start for this specialty.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start.
- TB Testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot required within 1 year of start.
- Drug Testing: Negative 10 panel drug screen required within 30 days of start.
- Flu Vaccination: Required by 10/31/24 for the flu season.
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required for travel placements; must be fully vaccinated for per diem.
Background Checks
- Criminal check required within 90 days of start, including local, federal, and national checks.
References
- 2 professional references required within three years of start for travel positions.
