Job Description

Position: OR Surgical Tech First Assist
Experience Required: 2 years (First-timers accepted depending on experience)
On Call Requirements: Call coverage for OB and OR, including 5 weekdays and 2 weekends (1–24-hour shift on either Saturday or Sunday)

Required Certifications

NBSTSA CSFA
BLS (Basic Life Support)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for RN/LPNs in ED or Pediatrics
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - As required by unit description
TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - As required by unit description
EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Required for L&D candidates
NIH Stroke Certification - Required for MS/Tele and ICU
Tech Cert Verification - National - Required based on Profession/State

Skills Required

Surgical First Assist Skills:
- Suturing all wound layers including muscle and fascia
- Tying/ligating clamped vessels or tissues
- Wound dressing; liquid or spray occlusive
Professional Knowledge and Skills:
- Instrument Processing
- Isolation Precautions
- Laser Safety
- Sterilization/Disinfection
Work Setting Skills:
- Acute Inpatient OR
- CVOR
- Outpatient OR
Surgery Case Skills:
- Endo/Laparoscopic

Additional Requirements

Background Check: Required within 90 days of start

- Tdap vaccine recommended for positions with exposure to children and infants
- Negative TB or Chest X-Ray required
