Job Description

• Unit: Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU)
• Patient Diagnoses: Various types of Neurological patients
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12 Hour Nights
• Staffing Ratios: 2:1; occasionally 3:1
• Float Requirement: Yes, to other ICUs and intermediate units
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Required Skills and Certifications

• Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years
• Traveler Experience: 1st time travelers accepted
• Locals Accepted: Yes
• Skills:

  • ICP Monitoring
  • Ventilator Management
  • Telemetry
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BCLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH (National Institutes of Health Stroke Certification)

Special Procedures/Unit Details

• 26 bed Neuro and surgical ICU within a comprehensive stroke center
• Experience with stroke management, ICP management, seizure management, and critical care patient management including titrating drips and invasive equipment.

Special Equipment

• EVD management
• Ventilator management
• Zoll temperature management/artic sun
• PCAs

Unit Systems

• Medication: Pyxis
• Documentation: EPIC
• Communication: SBAR

Orientation

• Duration: 24 hours

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Navy Blue or White or a combination of both

Additional Information

• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
• AHA or American Red Cross certifications are acceptable for required certifications.

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start.
• Fit Testing: Required for all candidates except non-clinical positions.
• TB Testing: Required within 1 year of start.
• Flu Vaccination: Required annually by October 31st.
• COVID-19 Vaccination: Required for Per Diem candidates.

Background Checks

• Criminal check required within 90 days of start.
• Education verification required for highest degree earned.

References

• 2 professional references required within three years of start for travel, allied, and per diem acute care positions.
