Description

General job duties. Types of procedures required.

The registered nurse monitors, examines, and evaluates the patient’s conditions. Assists with the care plan and takes appropriate actions to promote the patient’s short/long-term outcomes and wellbeing. Delivers care plan as outlined, applying independent judgment where appropriate. Collaborates with and communicates patient care plans with other staff, as appropriate. Prioritizes and coordinates optimum daily patient flow and patient experience. Delivers safe and effective care according to policies and procedures. Maintains appropriate documentation of patient assessment, changes in condition, care delivered, education provided, and any incidents or exceptions related to standards of care or compliance with hospital policy.

2. Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)

Cerner Firstnet computer charting with medication scanning, Omnicell medication dispenser, Phillips monitoring and EKGs, iStats, Accu-checck glucometer, waived testing, chest tube drains, restraints.

3. Required skills and minimum years of experience.

At least 2 years of Pediatric Emergency Department experience required.

4. Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)

RN licensure for the State of Georgia or multi-state compact license. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS

5. Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)

Four 1 (PM) Every other weekend required

6. Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)

Our ED encompasses the adult ED, the Pediatric ED and the Behavioral health area in the ED, The candidate may have to work in any of those areas but otherwise will not be sent to other departments.

7. Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.

In total we currently have about 76 beds. Peds - 15 Adult - 52 BHU - 9

8. Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only) Contingent on Patient type- 1:3, 1:4 or 1:5

9. Dress Code:

Navy Blue scrubs

10. Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program.

Completion of a three day preceptor based Pediatric ED specific orientation to the pediatric ED. ED specific computer modules as well as ISTAT and waived test training will be completed. Orientation competency checklist will be completed. Adheres to the ED policies and procedures to ensure canditate: Has an understanding of the different processes and patient flow through the pediatric ED and fast track areas.

Has an understanding of and follows the ED defined pathways and protocols and is able to work independently with multiple patients, with differing health issues. Is able to multi-task and understands that they will be caring for ED patients as well as inpatient admission holds in the ED.

Pros

Unit is traveler friendly. The manager is very kind and understanding with scheduling. Patient ratios is usually 1:3 or 1:4. Very small but busy PEDS ED. The cost of living is very descent unless it’s during the Masters.

Nicole was very helping and always proficient with reaching out and even going above and beyond when the facility itself was slacking. When the facility canceled all contracts the day before start date she found me another position within the same week. I would recommend her 10x over.
