PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES• Provides holistic care for post-operative patients, including those who have had orthopedic, bariatric, urologic, or general surgicalprocedures• Assesses patients, as appropriate to the scope of care the nurse will provide. Assessments may include: physical, psychosocial, learningneeds and barriers, needs related to age/culture, discharge planning.• Establishes nursing diagnoses based on results of assessments and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.• Plans care according to identified diagnoses and needs. Updates plan of care as appropriate.• Implements/performs individualized care, based on nursing care plan and the nurse’s role with the patient. This care may include but notbe limited to:• Assisting with activities of daily living, including fall risk management and safe patient handling.• Medication administration• Skin assessment/wound care• Pain management• Operation/manipulation of biomedical and other patient care and testing equipment, including but not limited to infusion pumps, patienttransfer equipment, cardiopulmonary monitors, invasive catheters and drains, thermoregulation devices, measurement devices,medication dispensing cabinets, external therapeutic devices.• Assisting the physician and other licensed, independent practitioners with invasive and non-invasive procedures.• Teaching patients and their families about current illness, medical tests, medication, general healthcare, illness and disease prevention,and wellness promotion.• Providing appropriate assignment, supervision, and direction to unlicensed assistive personnel in order to ensure optimum patient care.• Providing interdisciplinary coordination and facilitation of overall care.• Documents patient assessments, interventions, care, and teaching in the electronic medical record. Documents in paper format, asnecessary. Documentation is complete, concise, timely, and legible.

16 hours unbillableOT is 1.25x BRClient can cancel 4 shifts per 13 weeksPost Surgical Unit Details:We are a med/surg level of care unit, with 30 beds, where 75% of our patients have had a surgical procedure, the others being medical overflow.Our ratios are 1:4 on day shift, 1:5 on nights.We have between 1 and 3 CNAs on the unit, depending on our census.We have phlebotomists who draw labs, RT who do nebulizer treatments.The charge nurse does not take a patient assignment, their expected to help the team with the flow of the unit, tasks, and discharge paperwork/appointments.We see patients from the following surgical specialties:Ortho – mild trauma, fractures, and we are a Joint Replacement Destination Center where knee and hip replacements have standard pathways and they have a program coordinator who works with them pre and post operatively.General Surgery- Abdominal and thoracic (lobectomies usually spend the first night in ICU, then come to us)Urology – stones/stents, nephrectomies, prostatectomies, TUR-BTs, and cystectomies with ileal conduit formation. Continuous bladder irrigation is common.Otolaryngology- thyroidectomies, tympanomastoidectomiesPodiatry- some complex cases require overnight observation, but it is rareBay Area Hospital in Coos Bay, Oregon offers comprehensive medical services for people of all ages. Nicole was very helping and always proficient with reaching out and even going above and beyond when the facility itself was slacking. When the facility canceled all contracts the day before start date she found me another position within the same week. I would recommend her 10x over.
