Description
General job duties. Types of procedures required.
Assesses and documents normal and abnormal findings
Develops, coordinates, and evaluates plan of care based on patient/family needs and expected outcomes to the extent that is feasible in an emergency room setting.
Obtains / interprets information in terms of the patient’s needs
Understands the range of treatment needs of the patient
Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the following: hemodynamic monitoring, airway management, dysrhythmia recognition, CPR, body-fluid monitoring.
Triage (using ESI) and assessment of emergency patients, administration of medications, IV starts and venipuncture to include blood culture collection, urinary catheter insertions, obtaining EKG’s, monitoring of patient status, blood administration, procedural sedation. Treatment of patients with respiratory distress/failure, code blue, code strokes, code STEMI, traumas, and sepsis.
Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)
Accudose medication dispensing, Cerner charting (FirstNet) with medication scanning, Phillips monitors and EKG, ISTATS, Accucheck glucometer, waived tests, chest tube drains (atrium), restraints
Required skills and minimum years of experience.
2 years ED experience
Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)
BLS, ACLS, PALS required, TNCC preferred
Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)
Will work every other weekend, 2 or 3 holidays (holidays are: Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day), and one 24 hour call shift every 4 four weeks. 36 hours a week,
Our Scheduling Needs are: 1 nurse 3p-3a, 2 nurses 11a-11p, 3 nurses 7a-7p, and 4 nurses 7p-7a.
Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)
Only possibly float to departments discussed below in #7 (ED behavioral health, Peds ED, ED observation)
Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.
The entire ED has 71 beds—8 critical care rooms, 25 acute rooms, 5 Fast Track rooms, 9 behavioral health bays (usually staffed by psych nurses, not ED nurses unless a call in), 15 peds ED rooms (usually staffed by peds ED nurses unless a call in), 9 ED observation beds (Usually staffed by obs nurses unless a call in)
Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)
On critical the ratio is 1:2 or occasionally 1:3. On Acute the ratio is 1:3 or 1:4. Fast Track is 1:5.
Dress Code:
Branded Navy Blue Cherokee scrubs (buy from the store on campus)

Adheres to the ED and the EDOU’s policies and procedures
Has an understanding of the different processes and patient flow between the Adult ED and the EDOU
Has an understanding of and follows the ED defined pathways and protocols and is able to work independently with multiple patients, with differing health issues.
Is able to multi-task and understands that they will be caring for ED patients as well as inpatient admission holds in the ED.
Completion of a one week preceptor based ED specific orientation to the adult acute care pods. ED specific computer modules as well as ISTAT and waived test training will be completed. Orientation competency checklist will be completed. If TNCC certified and all trauma education completed, when appropriate, may be assigned to critical care.

Nicole was very helping and always proficient with reaching out and even going above and beyond when the facility itself was slacking. When the facility canceled all contracts the day before start date she found me another position within the same week. I would recommend her 10x over.
