Job Description: JOB DESCRIPTION This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Valley Medical Center and will be narrowed during the interview process based on several factors, including (but not limited to) the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity. TITLE: Breast Imaging Technologist JOB OVERVIEW: The Breast Imaging Technologist performs a variety of technical procedures including high quality screening and diagnostic breast imaging, complete diagnostic work-up, wire localizations for surgical biopsy, galactograms, and stereo biopsy requiring skill, independent judgment and ingenuity. This position is directly involved in facilitating patient outcomes. WORK HOURS: As assigned DEPARTMENT: Valley Breast Center REPORTS TO: Manager, Valley Breast Center PREREQUISITES:
  • Must have fulfilled MQSA mammography requirements.

  • License may be obtained through attending an approved school, ARRT certification or alternative training. Professional credentials specific to work area:

  • Advanced certification in Breast Ultrasound (BS) or ARDMS reg eligibility required.

  • ARRT with mammography certification and/or Washington State License preferred.

  • Previous professional experience in breast health special procedures preferred.

  • Two years mammography experience preferred.

  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on the assigned unit/department.

  • Proficient understanding of breast anatomy and mobility to aid in location and investigation of mammographic findings.

  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and preparation of sterile trays for ultrasound guided procedures.

  • Demonstrate sonographic skills to identify, record pathology, and adapt procedures as needed to position patient to obtain best anatomical, pathological and diagnostic information and images.

  • Demonstrates independent judgement to acquire the optimum breast sonographic information in each examination performed for our Radiologist team.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded and correct imaging protocol is followed.

  • Demonstrates effective communication skills in a diverse population.

  • Demonstrates the ability to work as a member of a team.

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to remain organized and positive in a climate of constant change.

  • Familiarity and experience in outpatient imaging center environment.

  • UNIQUE PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT, AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires working with a team at the direction of the lead technologist to maintain effective operation of the Breast Health Center and facilitate efficient patient care. Includes handling, lifting, and transporting patients. Requires working under changing conditions, depending on the schedule. Includes the potential for exposure to body fluids, radiation, and other conditions common to a hospital environment and outpatient imaging center environment. Position requires advanced positioning skills, a complete knowledge of breast anatomy and pathology, and the ability to interact with the patient in a caring and professional manner. The incumbent performs radiographic procedures at a high technical level and works closely with patients and radiologists. Position requires the ability to perform computer tasks using systems unique to the breast center. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES A. Generic Job Functions: See Generic Criteria for Clinical Support Partner. B. Essential Responsibilities and Competencies:
  • Provides appropriate instructions for patients, and assumes responsibility for the safety, and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.

  • Responsible for creating consents for upcoming procedures and stocking rooms accordingly

  • Responsible for inputting appropriate pathology and lab requisitions

  • Assist radiologists in all ultrasound guided procedures to include:

  • Cyst Aspiration

  • Core Needle Biopsy

  • Wire Localization

  • Savi Scout RFID Localization

  • Produces high quality digital images, correctly positions patient, and selects the correct technical factors.

  • Performs breast related studies.

  • Performs daily verification and facilitates completion of any pending clinical tasks.

  • Functions as department resource for operation of technical equipment. Helps to facilitate equipment repair. Maintains equipment.
