Description
High school graduate or GED preferred.
Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or LPN Program, with recent experience in an acute care facility or equivalent training.
Current registration to practice as a surgical technologist in the State of Washington (waived for LPN).
Certification preferred.
BLS for healthcare providers required.
Past history of good attendance to VMC standards.
Past history of satisfactory job performance that meets VMC standards.
Capable of comprehending, executing, acting, and directing independently.
Able to communicate effectively in oral and written form in the English language.
Neat and well-groomed appearance.
Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills in a diverse population.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional developments of all ages served.
Demonstrates ability to actively participate and apply the Valley Values in daily work.
Assures that surgical procedures/preference cards that enumerate surgeon's preferences are current and followed.
Assures physical preparation of clinical area, i.e., place furniture.
Prepares specimens for sending to Pathology. Transports specimens as necessary per protocol.
Establishes and maintains sterile field.
Prepares instruments for use as necessary.
Assists in room turnover and set up in a timely manner.
Familiar with autoclave use.
Coordinates stocking with staff members.
Observes Surgical Services Department dress code and wears identification badge.
Complies with attendance and tardiness standards.
Verifies exposure to a sterilization process and integrity of sterile packaging. Opens supplies aseptically.
Prepares and knows the specific uses of all needed equipment and supplies, including solutions and drugs.
Other duties as assigned.

Patient Care Resources/References
Follow chain of command for unresolved issues.
Successfully completes annual competency testing.
Performance reflects knowledge of Association of Surgical Technologists Standards of Practice.
