Description

Job Description: VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER LPN BIRTH CENTER JOB DESCRIPTION The position description is a guide to the critical duties and essential functions of the job, not an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, qualifications, physical demands and work environment conditions. TITLE: Licensed Practical Nurse- Clinical Support Partner JOB OVERVIEW: The Licensed Practical Nurse, under the direct supervision of the Birth Center Charge Nurses, Assistant Nurse Manager and Nurse Manager, will assist in providing safe and effective nursing care as assigned and qualified to perform in the Birth Center. In collaboration with staff RNs, providing direct patient care, cleaning and maintaining equipment and environment, ordering/stocking supplies in assigned areas and some patient transport are components of the position. The position requires an understanding of the Birth Center's policies and procedures, state and federal regulations and guidelines to assist with the appropriate provision of services. Specific skills also include ability to communicate with the patient, healthcare team, caregivers, families and volunteer supervision as directed by the Providers. The Licensed Practical Nurse may assist staff with the implementation of a new program, quality improvement tasks and may assist with supervision of volunteers with specific tasks as directed by providers. Nurse Manager and Nurse Manager PREREQUISITES:
  • Current Washington State License as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

  • Successful completion of the pre-hire WorkSteps evaluation for LPN's.

  • Current American Heart Association CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers required.

  • GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Capable of comprehending, executing, and acting within the scope of practice of the licensed practical nurse.

  • Able to communicate effectively in oral and written form in the English language.

  • Neat, well groomed and professional appearance.

  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills in a diverse population.

  • Proficient in communicating with patients/clients that are from diverse population of age, ethnic, socioeconomic, and/or are physically challenged.

  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines, set priorities and work accurately.

  • Ability to communicate with provider regarding patient care plan, and request assistance as appropriate for positive patient outcomes.

  • UNIQUE PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT, AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Follow all Safe Patient Handling policies and procedures and can recognize own limitations with regards to load handling, regularly seeking assistance when demand of transfer or lift exceeds individual physical abilities. This position requires standing, sitting, crouching, bending and walking for extensive periods of time. Must be able to lift/carry 40 lbs. to complete patient care services.   • ENVIRONMENT OF CARE -see Generic Job Description- Clinical Support Partner

  • Complete EOC rounding of department and treatment areas at regular intervals to check on department and equipment maintenance needs.

  • Responsible for checking, stocking and reporting inventory levels (including misplaced or lost items) and ordering of supplies for all clinical areas assigned, removing any outdated stock.

  • Participate in identifying risks within team/department and assist Charge Nurse/Manager or Director with developing strategies for emergency preparedness.

  • Fulfill his/her role during an emergency and continue to provide care, treatment and services to our patients during the emergency.

  • Assist with evaluating the Emergency Operations Plan and assist with returning our department/team to normal operations.

  • Assist with volunteer or student instruction and supervision in department tasks as requested or assigned by manager.

  • Follow infection control policies and procedures and protocols with specific department equipment and clinical areas assigned within scope of practice.

  • Complete documentation during shift as close to real time as practical for all patients.

  • Follow policies and procedures for all patient care.

  • Understand rules, regulations, and laws related to documentation.

  • Utilize technology for patient care, process improvement for clinical work and communicate as appropriate. Technology can include but is not limited to: VMC software, email, Internet, voice mail, etc., to create an efficient environment for teamwork and quality patient care.
