Job Description

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Ratios: 2:1 (can flex up to 3:1 in high census)
  • Average Daily Census: 11-12
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Call Requirement: None
  • Float Requirement: Yes

Required Skills and Certifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Neuro ICU (strong neuro experience required)
  • Traveler Experience: 1st time travelers accepted
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BCLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Skills:
    • Vents
    • IV Start
    • Neuro Intensive Care Unit
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Blood Product Administration
    • Central line care/management
    • Continuous IV sedation
    • CVA/Acute Stroke management
    • External ventricular drains (EVD)
    • ICP Monitoring
    • Post Neurosurgery management
    • Care of Ventilated Patients
    • Isolation Precautions/Use of PPE
    • Lumbar Drain experience

Preferred Skills

  • Arterial line management

Patient Population

  • Comprehensive stroke center with a focus on:
    • Ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes
    • Subdural hematomas (SDH)
    • Craniotomies
    • Carotid stents and endarterectomies
    • Aneurysm coiling/clipping
    • Seizures
    • Myasthenia gravis

Special Equipment

  • EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, Arctic Sun

Unit Orientation

  • 24 hours (2 days or 2 nights)

Scrubs

  • Navy blue & white

Additional Notes

  • RTO (Request Time Off) after booking is not allowed.
  • Must pass EKG Testing prior to start.
  • Strong neuro critical care background is essential; general ICU experience is not sufficient.
