Job Overview for Registered Nurse Position

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
  • Facility: Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12HR Nights
  • Patient Ratios: 1:3/4
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
  • Floating Requirement: Required to float to the sister unit (5th West ICCU)

Required Skills and Certifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience, including critical care and/or intermediate critical care experience
  • Traveler Experience: First-time travelers accepted
  • Skills:
    • IV Start
    • Telemetry
    • Titration of Cardiac Drips
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BCLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification

Patient Care Details

  • Unit Description:
    • 20-bed Intermediate Critical Care Unit
    • Care for patients with potentially life-threatening health problems, including unstable hemodynamics, surgical patients, neurological complications, detox/withdrawal, and respiratory distress requiring non-invasive support.
  • Special Procedures:
    • Management of titratable drips (e.g., Cardizem, Nitro, Levophed)
    • Care for COVID-19 patients

Additional Information

  • Orientation: 24 hours (2 full days)
  • Scrubs: Navy
  • Missed Shifts: Must be made up within the same week if possible; otherwise, time added to the end of the contract
  • Holidays: Required unless pre-approved off during the offer process

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start
  • TB Testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year of start
  • Drug Testing: Required within 30 days of start
  • Flu Vaccination: Required by 10/31/24 for the flu season
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required for travel placements; must be fully vaccinated for per diem positions

Competencies and Training

  • Competency Exams: Required for specific specialties (e.g., Dysrhythmia/EKG)
  • Training Modules: Must complete various training modules prior to start, including Medication Safety and Non-Novant Worker Orientation

Documentation Requirements

  • Background Check: Required within 90 days of start
  • References: Required for travel placements
  • Education Verification: Required for highest degree earned
