Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS). The candidate must have a current MLS/MLS Generalist Certification or Specialty Certification. Vaccination for Flu is required.

Requirements

• Experience: Hematology and Blood Bank experience required.
• Certification: Must be qualified to perform high complexity testing according to CLIA 493.1489 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications.
• Certification Required: MLT/MLS Generalist Certification or Specialty Certification in Blood Bank (BB), Chemistry (C), Hematology (H), or Microbiology (M).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Collect patient specimens.
• Utilize the Information System for:

  • Receiving patients
  • Ordering and collecting samples
  • Resulting tests
  • Answering questions from nurses and physicians
  • Documenting quality control activities
  • Producing required reports
• Perform lab tests in the specialties of:

  • Hematology
  • Urinalysis
  • Chemistry
  • Blood Bank
  • Microbiology (using both automated and manual methods)
• Analyze test results for validity and accuracy prior to release.
• Ensure designated turnaround times for results are met and critical results are reported and documented appropriately.
• Perform quality control and proficiency testing procedures as defined by policy.
• Interpret and troubleshoot quality control results to ensure accurate test results.
• Conduct preventative maintenance, minor troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instrumentation.
• Participate in method and instrument evaluation and implementation.
• Teach and train new partners and students.
• Maintain competency in current procedures and gain competency for new methods implemented.
