Unit Information

• Unit: K8 General Surgery
• Location: 8th Floor, K-tower
• Number of Beds: 44
• Staffing:

  • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 11 RNs, 4 CNAs, 1 unit secretary
  • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 10 RNs, 4 CNAs, 1 unit secretary
• Patient Ratios:

  • Day Shift: 1:6
  • Night Shift: 1:7
• Equipment Used: Telemetry, PCA, wound vacs, Baxter IV pumps, TPN, tube feeds, urinary catheters
• EMR System: Cerner

Required Skills and Experience

• Must Have:

  • Telemetry competency
  • Ability to manage 6-7 patients depending on the shift
  • Experience in urology and bowel care
• Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with TPN, PCA, wound vacs, tube feeds, PEG tubes, NG tubes, colostomies, urostomies, and various surgical procedures (e.g., cholecystectomies, appendectomies, hysterectomies)

Certifications Required

• BLS
• Telemetry

Dress Code

• Navy blue pants, navy blue or white scrub top, and jacket (if needed). No sweaters, sweatshirts, hoodies, or coats allowed.

Additional Information

• Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• Floating Areas: Other med-surg areas may be required.
