Job Description

The RN Operating Room Surgical Tech is responsible for providing care for surgical patients, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining documentation according to AORN standards and guidelines.

Essential Functions

Patient Assessment

• Ensure appropriate supplies and equipment are available for patient procedures.

Effective and Professional Communication

• Demonstrate effective listening, written, and oral communication skills with patients, providers, and allied staff.
• Promptly communicate any abnormalities or pertinent information to the provider and/or anesthesia provider.
• Collaborate with RN and charge nurse to maintain efficient patient flow.
• Accurately document the intraoperative phase.
• Ensure availability of supplies during procedures.
• Update provider preference cards.

Patient Care

• Maintain universal precautions and comply with OSHA and clinic safety guidelines.
• Demonstrate proper handling of surgical specimens.
• Follow AORN standards for room setup, patient positioning, surgical site preparation, time-out protocol, and monitoring for breaks in sterile technique.
