Position Details

Unit Description

• Step Down Unit:

  • Trach care, bariatrics, nocturnal vents, stroke care.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 for Step Down/PCU; 1:6 if floated to acute care.
  • Float within specialty to Elmer.

• 5 East Acute:

  • Med Surg/Tele unit; agency nurses may float to other acute and critical care units.

• 4 East and 4 West:

  • Step-Down unit; agency nurses may float to other critical care units (e.g., ICU).

Experience and Requirements

• Minimum Experience: 2 years working on a Step Down/PCU unit.
• Specialty Requirement: Must be a true Step-Down RN; Med/Surg Tele experience is not accepted.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday.
• RTO (Request Time Off): No more than 3 days.
• License: NJ or compact license required.
• Certifications:

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS (AHA only)

• Float Requirements: Must be willing to float to ED Hold and other units within specialty.

Orientation Instructions

• First Day: Orientation details will be sent by Inspira by 5 PM the Friday prior to the start date.
• Orientation Schedule:

  • Virtual orientation on Monday.
  • In-person classes from Tuesday to Thursday; attendance is mandatory.
  • POCT class scheduled for the 2nd or 3rd week of the assignment.

Compliance Requirements

• Background check, drug screen, and various health screenings (e.g., COVID-19 vaccine, influenza vaccine, TB screening) are required.
