The Associate Director of Pharmacy & Dispensing is responsible for the operation of the Dispensing/Pharmacy program for ChenMed, et. al Medical Centers. This position is also responsible for execution and implementing policies and procedures. The Associate Director, Pharmacy communicates effectively with providers and staff, makes any Dispensing/Pharmacy-related decisions with discussion with the senior leader, analyzes Dispensing/Pharmacy data, identifies quality improvement and cost containment opportunities, and ensures the Dispensing/Pharmacy operates effectively and efficiently. This position also manages personnel, including staffing, planning, coordinating employees' work and providing guidance and feedback to Dispensing/Pharmacy staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements and manages policies and procedures to promote appropriate, safe and cost-effective medication use.
  • Monitors, evaluates and presents all Dispensing/Pharmacy data including monthly trend reporting drug utilization/costs.
  • Ensures services are in compliance with professional quality standards, state/federal regulatory requirements.
  • Manages staff operations and  communications.
  • Reviews Dispensing/Pharmacy authorization requests for medical necessity, using best practices and quality standards.
  • Helps manage a program that improves the quality of Dispensing/Pharmacy services and supports the quality improvement plan of the organization.
  • Supports HEDIS Team with all medication related measures.
  • Participates in Patient Safety Committee.
  • In collaboration with the Operations team, interviews, selects and supervises staff; Manages training, job objectives, work methods, performance standards and appraisal, personnel development, safety, communication, discipline, grievances and other personnel actions.
  • Other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Must have a License that is in good standing from the Dispensing/Pharmacy board for the state in which they operate
  • Mid-level business acuity
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of general/core job-related functions, practices, processes, procedures, techniques and methods
  • Extensive knowledge of pharmacy workflow from prescription to claims submission and authorization request processing.
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to supervise and communicate effectively with staff, management and executives.

  • Strong organization, time management and project management skills and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Office Suite products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook; competent in other systems required for the position
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally and/or nationally up to 25% of the time; flexible to work weekends as needed
  • Spoken and written fluency in English

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dispensing/Pharmacy required; a graduate degree (M.S., MBA or Pharm.D.) is preferred
  • Experience in an HMO or experience in managed care setting a plus
  • Minimum Five (5) years of clinical experience
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience with formulary management in a health care delivery setting or equivalent experience
