Description

$10,000 SIGN ON BONUS

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Radiology has an exciting opportunity for a Radiologic Technologist to work full time at Lennar Foundation Medical Center in Coral Gablez. The incumbent is responsible for performing all radiographic procedures with minimal or no supervision of technical detail. Perform a variety of technical procedures with independent judgment and ingenuity. Possess initiative and an understanding of anatomical position and physiology, to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiology diagnosis. This position uses the following systems to access permitted Protected Health Information (PHI): UChart, RIS/PACS and Film Room Database.

CORE JOB FUNCITIONS

1. Obtains and examines the order for a Radiologic scan to be aware of information such as procedures requested, patient’s condition and any other special notes or comments.
2. Ensures that orders are appropriate to the type of exam recommended by physician. Notifies supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts physician’s office for correct orders if necessary.
3. Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
4. Verify the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient’s wristband.
5. Always obtain necessary consents and education.
6. Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of Radiologic scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age appropriate standards of practice.
7. Ability to integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt exam as necessary. Adheres to Radiologic protocols to maintain high quality standards.
8. Consistently demonstrates complete competence in performing Radiologic scans as ordered.
9. As required during a procedure, assists positioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for Radiologic scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
10. Maintain proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection and equipment disinfection).
11. Assist radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
12. Assist radiologist with interventional Radiologic procedures.
13. Evaluate Radiologic scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmit to PACS.
14. Charge procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant.
15. Dispenses oral contrast to patients for Radiologic scans.
16. Maintain accurate patient records.
17. Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions.

18. Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist:
a. Children
b. Adolescents
c. Adults
d. Geriatric
e. Challenged/Disabled
19. Performs basic nursing functions in the patient’s care i.e., assists with bedpans, emesis basins, etc. Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures; initiates life support measures for patients if necessary; assists in “Code Blue” procedure during medical emergencies. Performs CPR as needed.
20. Keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.
21. Provides on call coverage.
22. Reports unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate Radiologist/Supervisory personnel.
23. Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions.
24. Provide assistance with orientation and training of new Radiologic technologists.
25. Provides education and training to student technologists.
26. Abide by hospital/department HR policies.
27. Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.
28. Assist with the day-to-day operations within the department.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology /Diagnostic Imaging Program.

Certification and Licensing:

ARRT registered. State of Florida License as a General Radiographer. CPR and BLS certification required.

Experience:

One (1) year of relevant experience preferred, will consider new graduates from accredited schools.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Skill in completing assignment accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
