Description

The University of Miami Health System at Doral has an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Ultrasound Technologist 2 to work in Doral

The University of Miami Health System will soon open the second phase to our state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Doral that serves as a western hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This 160,000 square foot expansion will continue to bring world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing Doral community. UHealth at Doral will have services through the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, as well as specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. The expansion will provide residents with innovative, specialized medical services in the heart of their community. Once complete, UHealth at Doral will have 8 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy procedure rooms, 33 cancer treatment bays, over 60 multidisciplinary exam rooms, and supporting ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy. UHealth at Doral will open in September, 2024.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Ultrasound Technologist - Level II is responsible for performing complex procedures in Ultrasound through the operations of radiographic equipment to obtain highest quality of diagnostic images. Independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative are essential in addition to responsibility for designated areas, procedures and equipment. Supervises the day-to-day operations in the absence of modality Chief Technologist or Radiology Manager.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Coordinate/manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
2. Supervises as well as performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist.
3. Assist with the education and training of new physicians.
4. Assist radiologists and PhD's in developing new protocols and Ultrasound imaging techniques that are unique to facility.
5. Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
6. Act in a team leader capacity on a routine basis.
7. Monitor charging of Ultrasound procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.
8. Demonstrate Ultrasound equipment for 'site visits' for visiting physicians and administrators.
9. Provide in-service classes in section.
10. Obtains and examines the order for an Ultrasound scan to be aware of information such as procedures requested, patient’s condition and any other special notes or comments.
11. Ensures that orders are appropriate to the type of exam recommended by physician. Notifies supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts physician’s office for correct orders if necessary.
12. Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
13. Verify the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient’s wristband.
14. Always obtain necessary consents and education.
15. Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of Ultrasound scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age appropriate standards of practice.
16. Ability to integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt exam as necessary. Adheres to Ultrasound protocols to maintain high quality ultrasound standards.
17. Consistently demonstrates complete competence in performing Ultrasound scans as ordered.
18. As required during a procedure, assists positioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for Ultrasound scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
19. Maintain proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection and equipment disinfection).
20. Assist radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
21. Assist radiologist with interventional Ultrasound procedures.
22. Evaluate Ultrasound scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmit to PACS.
23. Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions.
24. Charge procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant.
25. Maintain accurate patient records.
26. Provide assistance with orientation and training to new Ultrasound technologists.
27. Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions.
28. Provide education and training to student technologists.
29. Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist:
a. Children
b. Adolescents
c. Adults
d. Geriatric
e. Challenged/Disabled
30. Performs basic nursing functions in the patient’s care i.e., assists with bedpans, emesis basins, etc. Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures; initiates life support measures for patients if necessary; assists in “Code Blue” procedure during medical emergencies. Performs CPR as needed.
31. Keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.
32. Provides on call coverage.
33. Reports unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate Radiologist/Supervisory personnel.
34. Abide by to hospital/department HR policies.
35. Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.
36. Assist with the day-to-day operations within the department.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography and/or Vascular accredited program.

Certification and Licensing:

ARDMS registered. ARDMS-Abdominal & Vascular required. CPR and BLS certification required.

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
