Description

The Surgical Technologist work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that the equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical Technologist is proficient in the theory and application of the principles of asepsis and sterile technique to combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation and tools and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Functions as a liaison between the service line, surgeons, and staff as a subject matter expert in a particular specialty.
Collaborates with department leadership in the daily management and coordination of the service line assigned.
Participates in the development of operational and capital budget as appropriate for supplies and equipment for the service line responsible for.
Functions as a member of the surgical team in the role of the scrub person.
The Surgical Technologist in the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
Has an expertise in the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
Provides knowledge, ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure, and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
Demonstrates advances-level critical thinking and problem solving activities
Demonstrates superior knowledge of various surgical equipment and advanced surgical instrumentation and modalities.
Demonstrates superior knowledge and expert practice in the first scrub role in advanced surgical procedures.
Performs the preceptor role in the training of students and onboarding of new-hires surgical techs.
Reviews all operational information related to efficiency and productivity matrices and established targets.
(First Case On Time Starts (FCOTS) and Turn Around Time (TAT)).

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent and/or Graduated from an accredited Surgical Technology program
Certification and Licensing:
Certification as a Surgical Technologist required
Current AHA Basic Life Support certificate required
Experience:
Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Commitment to the University’s core values.
Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
Demonstrates knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies located in the operating room
