A Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized, advanced care to patients who are recovering from critical conditions but require close monitoring and frequent assessment. They care for patients who have been stabilized from intensive care but still require higher levels of monitoring and medical interventions, often managing complex medical conditions such as cardiac, respiratory, or neurological issues.
\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n- \n
- Provide direct nursing care to patients in the PCU Stepdown unit, including monitoring and managing complex medical conditions such as post-surgical recovery, cardiac conditions, and respiratory distress. \n
- Assess patients' conditions, implement and evaluate individualized care plans, and adjust care as needed to meet patients' evolving needs. \n
- Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and adherence to medical protocols. \n
- Monitor patients for signs of deterioration and respond quickly to medical emergencies, escalating care as necessary. \n
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and adjust treatment plans based on patient needs. \n
- Educate patients and their families on medical conditions, treatment plans, and self-care strategies, promoting patient independence and recovery. \n
- Document patient assessments, care provided, and responses to treatments in accordance with established protocols and regulations. \n
- Participate in the care planning process, ensuring patients receive optimal care and achieve desired outcomes. \n
- Monitor vital signs, maintain accurate patient records, and ensure all clinical documentation is completed and updated. \n
- Provide guidance and supervision to other nursing staff, including Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Nursing Assistants (CNAs). \n
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, safety regulations, and hospital policies. \n
- Participate in continuous education, unit-based quality improvement initiatives, and professional development activities. \n

- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted. \n
- Licensure:\n

- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. \n

- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. \n
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred for patients with cardiac conditions. \n
\n - Experience: Previous experience in progressive care, telemetry, or stepdown units \n
