Description

Job Title: Mother-Baby Registered Nurse (Mother-Baby RN)** Job Summary:

A Mother-Baby Registered Nurse (Mother-Baby RN) provides specialized care to postpartum mothers and their newborns, ensuring a smooth transition from hospital to home. The Mother-Baby RN focuses on the physical, emotional, and educational needs of both the mother and newborn, fostering bonding, supporting breastfeeding, and ensuring the health and well-being of both.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and provide postpartum care for mothers, focusing on physical healing, emotional support, and education.
  • Monitor and care for newborns, ensuring proper feeding, growth, and developmental milestones.
  • Provide education to mothers on infant care, breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, and parenting techniques.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including pain management, wound care, and lactation support.
  • Monitor maternal and newborn vital signs, identifying and managing any postpartum complications such as infections, bleeding, or breastfeeding issues.
  • Support and educate mothers on breastfeeding, helping with latch techniques, and addressing concerns related to lactation.
  • Assist with newborn care, including bathing, feeding, and recognizing signs of illness or distress.
  • Collaborate with pediatricians, lactation consultants, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care for both mother and baby.
  • Promote bonding between mother and baby, offering guidance on skin-to-skin contact and parenting strategies.
  • Provide emotional support to new mothers, helping them navigate the emotional challenges of postpartum life.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient care, assessments, and progress according to hospital standards.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
  • Licensure:
    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Certification:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification preferred.
    • Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in maternal and newborn care preferred
