Description

Job Title: Postpartum Registered Nurse (Postpartum RN)** Job Summary:

A Postpartum Registered Nurse (Postpartum RN) provides comprehensive care to postpartum mothers and their newborns during the immediate post-delivery period. The Postpartum RN focuses on physical, emotional, and educational support, ensuring the health and well-being of both mother and newborn as they transition to home and family life.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and monitor maternal health, including physical recovery, wound care, and breastfeeding support.
  • Provide education and support to mothers regarding infant care, breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, and parenting.
  • Administer medications and treatments, including pain management, contraception, and lactation support.
  • Monitor newborn health, including feeding, growth, and developmental milestones.
  • Educate mothers and families on newborn care, feeding techniques, and identifying signs of illness or distress.
  • Collaborate with pediatricians, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated care.
  • Support mothers in emotional and psychological adjustment during the postpartum period, addressing concerns such as anxiety, mood changes, or bonding issues.
  • Assist with breastfeeding, helping with latch techniques, milk expression, and addressing breastfeeding challenges.
  • Identify and manage postpartum complications such as infections, hemorrhage, and mental health concerns like postpartum depression.
  • Provide emotional support and counseling to new mothers and their families, helping them navigate the emotional challenges of early motherhood.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of maternal and newborn assessments, care plans, and progress according to hospital standards.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
  • Licensure:
    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Certification:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred.
    • Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in maternal and newborn care preferred
