Description
An Electrophysiology Technologist (EP Tech) assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac arrhythmias through specialized procedures in the electrophysiology (EP) lab. This role involves operating advanced equipment, monitoring patient vitals, and ensuring the accurate placement of catheters and devices during procedures. The EP Tech works closely with the healthcare team to ensure patient safety and the success of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
Key Responsibilities:- Prepare the electrophysiology lab for procedures by setting up equipment, instruments, and supplies.
- Assist in diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology procedures, including ablations, pacemaker insertions, and implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) placements.
- Operate and maintain specialized EP lab equipment, such as 3D mapping systems, stimulators, and recording systems.
- Monitor and record patient vitals and intracardiac signals during procedures, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Assist with the placement and positioning of catheters under fluoroscopic guidance.
- Administer medications under physician supervision and monitor patient responses.
- Prepare sterile fields and adhere to strict infection control protocols.
- Collaborate with the electrophysiology team to identify and treat arrhythmias during procedures.
- Provide patient education regarding post-procedure care and device management.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of EP lab equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Participate in on-call rotations to support emergency electrophysiology procedures as needed.
- Education: Associate’s degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Certification:
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
- Experience: Previous experience in an electrophysiology lab or cardiac cath lab is preferred.
