Description

Job Summary: Outpatient Oncology Nurse
  • Location: Clinic setting
  • Shift: 8-hour day shifts (08:00–17:00), 40 hours/week, 13-week contract
  • Float Requirement: Fridays to *** Cancer Institute - Ballantyne (18.8 miles away, ~23 mins)
  • No Call or Weekend Requirements
  • Scrubs: Navy blue
Key Details:
  • RTO Policy: No RTO after booking. Call-offs/additional RTO may result in cancellation/DNR.
  • Ratios: 1:10 during the day; 5 rooms.
  • Orientation: 2-3 hours with clinic admin.
Required Experience & Skills:
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years (No 1st-time travelers).
  • Outpatient Oncology: Mandatory experience managing cancer patients' care, medications, chemo side effects, labs, and schedules.
  • Certifications: BLS, ONS/ONCC Chemo certification.
  • Clinical Skills:
    • Biotherapy and chemotherapy administration.
    • IV therapy/infusions (ports, central lines).
    • Oncologic emergencies (sepsis, anaphylaxis).
    • Psychosocial care (hospice, advanced directives).
    • Pain and symptom management.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Certifications: OCN (preferred).
  • Skills: Infusion center experience, advanced chemo administration, telemetry interpretation, tracheostomy care.
Patient Demographics & Diagnoses:
  • Age Groups: Adults, geriatrics.
  • Conditions: Urologic cancers, melanoma, sarcoma, non-malignant hematology.
Systems:
  • Charting: EPIC.
  • Scheduling: Based on clinic needs.
Interview Process:
  • Manager will interview candidates before offering. Submit interview availability within 72 hours.


### RTO after booking is NOT allowed and is NOT allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call offs or additional RTO on unit, could possibly turn into a Cancel and DNR ###

%%%Nurse will be fielding patient calls and messages surrounding patient cancer diagnosis/treatment, medications, chemotherapy side effects, lab and radiology results, etc. Nurse will also be managing patient schedules, referrals, and orders as directed by the provider%%%
*BIOTHERAPY Skills Required: Active Immunotherapy Specific/Non Specific, Recognize/manage side effects
*CARE OF PATIENT Skills with: Bladder/Kidney Cancer, Ear/Nose/Throat Cancers, Kidney, melanoma & Prostate
*CHEMOTHERAPY Skills Required: Oral Admin of Chemotherapy, Recognize/communicate abnormal lab values
*IV THERAPY/INFUSIONS Skills Required: Accessing Ports, Admin of Coagulation factors, Care and management of ports, Central line blood draw, Central line/implanted line care
*MEDICATION Skills Required: Antiemetic, Antitumor, Antibiotic, Corticosteroids, Neupogen, Hormonal therapy
*ONCOLOGIC EMERGENCIES Skills Required: ATLS, Anaphylaxis, Extravasation injury, Hemorrhage, Sepsis & Spinal Cord Compression
*PAIN MANAGEMENT Skills Required: Medication tolerance/dependence assessment
*PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE and Skills Required: Foley Catheter insertion/management, Isolation Precautions, Neutropenic precautions, Phlebotomy skills & wound care
*PSYCHOSOCIAL CARE Skills Required: Advanced Directives, Hospice Care, Patient/Family Education & Support
*SYMPTOM MANAGEMENT Skills Required: Alteration in skin and Mucous membranes, Altered mental status, Constipation/diarrhea, Dysphagia, Edema, Nausea/vomiting & Neuropathy
*SURGERY Skills Required: Post Surgical Care
Certs: BLS, Chemo (ONS/ONCC)

PREFERRED SKILLS / CERTS / EXP:
*Work Setting Skills: Infusion Center, Inpatient Oncology, Admin of Interferons & Interleukins
*Chemotherapy Skills Preferred: Admin of Chemo, Body fluid handling post Chemo, Management/disposal cytotoxic spills & Monitor Chemo
*IV Therapy/Infusion Skills Preferred: Antifungals, Antivirals, Blood/Blood product admin, Infusion pump management, Intravenous hydration/multivitamins, PICC line care & Starting IV's
*Professional Knowledge and Skills Preferred: Telemetry Interpretation & Monitoring & Tracheostomy care/management

JOB DETAILS:
RATIOS: 1:10 during the Days; 5 Rooms
SHIFT: *40 Hours Can Be Offered

PATIENT AGE GROUP: Adults & Geriatrics

PATIENT DIAGNOSES: Urologic cancers and conditions. Non-malignant hematology disorders. Melanoma and sarcoma diagnosis.

UNIT SYSTEMS: EPIC Required

SCHEDULING TYPE: Per the Clinic Needs

UNIT ORIENTATION: 2-3 Hours; Clinic Admin will show RN around the clinic and introduce them to everyone and work with them for a couple of hours. Not much in the way of a "Clinic Orientation. "
