Requirements

Minimum Experience: 2 years of surgical unit experience
Traveler Experience: Preferred but not required
Local Applicants: Accepted with a rate difference
Essential Skills:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Blood Product Administration
- Central and Peripheral Line Care/Management
- Surgical Drains Management
- Nasal Cannula and Non-invasive Airway Management
- Isolation Precautions
- Wound Care/Wound Vac
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH

Preferred Skills

Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
Chest tubes management (Emerson/Pleur-evac)

Job Details

Patient Ratio: 1:6 for surgical/medicine inpatient patients
Shift: 12-hour nights; 36 or 48 hours accepted (no OT billed until after 48 hours)
Contract Duration: 13 weeks up to March 15, 2025
RTO: 7 days MAX
Float Requirement: As needed to similar units
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Contract staff will be expected to work with the Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur, and staff may be preassigned to units as needed.

Patient Diagnoses

Our unit handles a wide range of patient diagnoses, including but not limited to:

Cellulitis, Appendicitis, Cholecystitis, Diverticulitis
Motor Vehicle Accidents, Gun Shots, Stabbings, Falls
Various Cancers, Kidney Stones, Bowel Obstruction
Peripheral Vascular Disease, Limb Ischemia, Hernia, Gangrene

Special Procedures and Equipment

Procedures: Cholecystectomy, Appendectomy, Hernia Repair, TURP, Ostomy Creation/Closure, Wound Debridement, Tumor Removal, Kidney Stone Removal, Amputations, Fem Pop Bypass
Equipment: Wound Vacs, Chest Tubes, NG tube/Corpak, JP Drains, Hemovac Drains, Penrose Drains

Unit Systems

Medication: Pyxis
Documentation: EPIC
Communication: SBAR

Additional Information

Scheduling: As needed
Orientation: 2 days of hospital orientation, 24 hours of floor training
Scrubs: All Navy or Navy on bottom/White Top
