Pros
Close to home, staffing ratios 4-5, mostly friend staff nurses. Extended a few times, even went down to 2 days a week. Not strict on schedule. No weekends worked. Learned a lot about bariatric surgeries. Got LOC by choice sometimes. I loved the way the rounds with providers were run in the mornings. It feels like quality care and communication.
Cons
Hyperfocused on technical details when overlooking big details. Upper staff often not around, bad turnover. 4-5 nurses left during my contract. I tried to negotiate price for pay & they said the hospital and my agency wouldn’t increase. I even gave them multiple extensions. Paragon charting system was NOT fun. Old school some ways. Not a lot of policies in place and feels a little unsafe at times for critical access. They didn’t have a sepsis protocol when I started or hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia protocols. Very interesting. I also witnessed a nurse not use a surgery consent order, just off the tip of her head… unsafe.
