A dirty, worn-out hospital that needs to clean house. Literally & Figuratively
Excellence is not the goal here. Getting through the day is. The facilities staff are largely absent. The floors are filthy, and need to be redone, both in the rooms and the hallways. The (Men's) locker rooms are poorly maintained and are NEVER given more than a low-level cleaning with a dust mop, and even that is not done with any degree of care or attention to detail. The surgery department is used as a transport hallway from other departments with patients and family members walking through the surgery hallways dozens of times each day and night. I would NEVER have my own care provided there. In the 3 months I was there, I saw so many things that would NEVER be tolerated at any other facility. The staff are fond of saying "You can't do that at other places, but you can get away with it here." The management staff is quite apathetic, and completely out of touch with the needs of the staff or the department. They are completely focused on schedules, and rarely seem to give time to anything else. They asked me over and over to stay, but there is no way. FWIW, the staff are quite good, and are wonderful people, just completely overwhelmed by a management structure who is disconnected and unaware of what a modern American operating room should expect for facilities, equipment, and standards of excellence.
