Pros

Good area cost-of-living is good

Cons

Nurse to patient ratio isn’t followed. Managers don’t seem to care about safety of patient or nurses it’s more about how many patients can they fit in since they follow a 12 to 1 nurse patient ratio which iway too high anyway, but will gladly hand you 16 to 18 patients when you arrive

Culture of the job is nothing like I have worked before. I have been here for a couple years and the policies still change day to day. The higher ups change whatever policy they need to for the day to fit their needs. Depending on the staff for that shift will determine how much team work and there is and what responsibilities will all be left on the person who actually works. The compensation is the lowest in the area. They offer critical but you have to work so many hours of regular a week before getting it and if you are 1 second late you will lose it all for the whole week. They have no sympathy for the staff or the things that we deal with on the floor daily. You are lucky if you see a manger unless they are coming around to reprimand you for something. The people who actually run the floor are the techs and the nurses. The ratios are never safe. Most of the time during the day it's 2 nurses and 2-3 techs for up to 28 patients and nights there is 1 nurse and 2 techs. The patients are unpredictable. Most are detoxing or truly psych and it can be dangerous when they do have an episode. I truly love the job that I do but most days the staff is what truly makes the job so mentally draining.
