Ratios now 6-7:1 for med/surg nights. Clear policies, protocols, and procedures. Good about accommodating my PRN schedule.  Good culture of trust, teamwork and concern for safety. Providers responsive and receptive. Lots of supporting teams (i.e. transport, IV team, phlebotomy, cath team and others). Pay was reduced frequently through the course of my contract and my extension though which was pretty disappointing.

Ambulatory Care

3 contracts since home state. Ratios days 1:4-5, nights 1:5-6. Sometimes no nursing assistance since they are 1:1 for dementia/behavior patients. Staffing making increased demands/rules on travelers: One manager for all, basically out you in a float pool unless a unit needs meet your request, although they review that after 30 days and you may get moved to another unit per need or back to float pool. No longer offer every 3rd weekend. Pay poorly considering they are Mayo Clinic! No parking!!!-you must ride the bus from employee lot. Review all rules before signing so you are away of what you’re signing up for!

Poor staffing

The ratio is very high, job is hard and always short staff. Not a safe environment

Acute Care

Mayo's work week is Wednesday to Tuesday.  Not Sunday to Sat. If you work 10 hour shifts they will schedule Mon through Friday because "it's not overtime"
Was told "no weekends, holidays or call"...
That's true, but they don't have staff to give breaks, lunch, or relief at the end of your shift. You're mandated to stay until the surgeries are done.  Many times 6-8 hours after your shit should have been over.
Toxic staff surgeons who belittle everyone in the OR.
You've been warned, stay away from this dumpster fire 🔥
