Great ratios and appropriate work load. However working as float pool I’ve been on majority of the units and most staff are very clicky and are not traveler friendly so it’s basically fend for yourself.

Cooper isn't travel friendly! There is a definite "us vs them" culture amongst 90% of the staff. The ironic part about the OR is there are more travelers than staff, they clearly need the travelers help, but they make it hard for us. Stay away if possible, there are plenty of other hospitals. The management is awful at best and they need to replace them with outsiders so that up to date knowledge and ideas can flow through that place. I was truly surprised at the level of practice they didn't possess being a LEVEL 1 trauma center.

I signed a 36hr contract but worked 48 each week for the first month. Then they were overstaffed cancelling up to 18 nurses a shift so I would always be on the chopping block because of my OT. One week they’d be overstaffed and the next under. HR need some guidance. All my OT shifts were cancelled for 2 months straight. Never again will I work as a Float. Not knowing what unit I’ll be on until an hour prior to shift just doesn’t sit right with my soul. And same goes for cancelling, they cancel you 2hrs prior to shift start and the day is already over so you can’t even plan around it. Oh the random floating to units with no experience in. So weird. I’m Med/Surg why am I in PACU? Or the Tele room? No orientation whatsoever it’s literally sink or swim. Cafeteria food is trash. Only good thing is the ratio was 4:1 max because they were on the brink of strike.

Be prepared to get cancelled

Float to different unit each shift, most techs and some rn’s are not helpful, routinely get the heaviest assignments.

Concerns Regarding Work Environment and Management:

- Toxic Workplace Culture: Some technicians and nurses contribute to a toxic environment, often implicating others unfairly.
- Hostile Work Environment: The workplace is characterized by malfeasance and hostility.
- Poor Management Practices: Management practices are inadequate and ineffective.
- Insufficient Resource Allocation: There is a notable lack of proper resource distribution.
- Supply Shortages: The facility frequently experiences shortages of necessary supplies.
- Ineffective Open-Door Policy: The open-door policy with management appears to be ineffective and unproductive.

Toxic workplace

Really bad place, Large number of substance abuse and psych pt. Managers are not very helpful, you are on your own.

The management here is the worst. They make working conditions in the unit 100% harder for the staff. I WOULD NEVER WORK HERE AGAIN.

This workplace thrives on high stress; you’ll navigate various departments, even the ER, with minimal support from staff who are often against travelers. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6, regardless of acuity. Nurses handle many tasks alone, while aides may not be cooperative. Favoritism in scheduling is evident, and calling out for emergencies may lead to unfavorable schedules. The facility is old and cramped, with two patients sharing tight rooms, and nurses relegated to hallways. Night shifts pose challenges, and employees must pay for parking in an unsafe rural area. It feels more like a grim institution than a hospital.
