I worked in the OR setting, soft goods/supplies were stocked well. When it comes to instruments/sets, you have several in Central Sterile that take no pride in their work. Each surgical specialty has its team's of surgical techs/nurses, so any traveler for general will get thrown wherever. So many travelers, so you may get away with not doing much, just depends on if the front desk person likes you or not.

Not sure about the rest of the hospital positions, but the ER is a terrible place to work as a traveler. They overload you constantly, stick all the travel staff in 2 pods and while you are working hard the core staff sit in the critical pods joking, eating, and playing on phones. The charge nurses don't allocate resources to assist when the department is busy. There is absolutely NO ancillary help. So you are Lab, CT transport, X-ray transport, Floor transport, and all with a full load of 4-5 patient's.  The psych patients are off the chain and security is a major issue. I am fearful of my license every time I go into work at AU ED. I wish I could leave 0 stars!

Job Summary

The Sterile Supplies Specialist is responsible for the sterilization and processing of supplies and instruments for distribution. Responsible for inspecting, sorting, disassembly/reassembly, manual and mechanical cleaning, biological processes, equipment operation, packaging, sterilizing, storing and distribution of sterile supplies. Work is performed under direct supervision and is reviewed by observation of results obtained. Also required to work ADEX (CRDTS) exams and mock boards, as well as other special board certifications exercises throughout the year as needed requiring weekend work up to approximately 4-6 times per year.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

INVENTORY: Assisting with the implementation of a system for inventory control and periodic inventory of dental instruments; Maintain daily inventory control.

INSTRUMENTS: Dispense and collect all instruments to and from dispensaries/clinics; ensure that the highest quality of infection control is maintained.

INVENTORY CONTROL: Operate computer system/scanners for inventory control, create labels, maintain forms, and create barcode labels.

INFECTION CONTROL: Ensure that the highest quality of infection control is maintained.

ROOM MAINTENANCE: Maintain all rooms associated with Central Sterilization, conduct scheduled cleaning of walls floors, counters, and equipment, and conduct daily cleaning of assigned work area.

OTHER DUTIES: Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization with knowledge of sterilization processes.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from a Dental Assistant Program and/or graduation from a Sterile Process Technician Program.

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with two years sterilization experience.

Responsibilities Duties to include but are not limited to: Under the general direction of the Lead Nurse - responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Required Qualifications * Licensed as an RN in the State of Georgia. * 1 year of previous experience in a clinical setting. * Good organizational and decision-making skills; good physical and mental health; able to work under pressure; must relate well to patients, security staff, visitors, and co-workers. * Functions within the Georgia Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act. * Must have current Health Care Provider BCLS Certification, obtained through American Heart or Red Cross Program. * Must be able to lift 50lbs. Normal bending, reaching, stooping. Standing and sitting for long periods of time. Must be able to move quickly in cases of emergency (within 4 minutes). Normal levels of hearing and seeing, if necessary, with corrective appliances.
