Not too bad

The Riverside location is nice inside, granted it’s not even 5 years old, I think. Ample parking, right off the highway and found housing no problem. I worked both days and nights and coworkers were really nice and helpful. It is a trauma 1 so will be dealing with medical students, nursing students, and residents, but majority were easy to work with, as well as attendings. They use EPIC charting along with the brain, bedside code charting, and secure chat. They do the Vocera badges which if you’ve never used before, they can be frustrating trying to get a hold of someone. I believe they had a few handheld Rover's, but usually charge used them. They also have touch screen “whiteboards” which was super nice, but only if they worked. Most equipment was fancy and up to date, most supplies were stocked. We would also get transfers from a nearby campus in Janesville, WI and quite a few from Iowa. Major pro: I believe the cafe was open till 10 or 11 pm and choices weren’t too bad. Major con: -they don’t have a dedicated transport department. It’s the volunteers from like 7/8am-2/3pm. The waits are incredibly long, but you could have a tech/cna do it but that takes a person off the floor. -they do not have 24/7 available or on call chaplain, which was incredibly frustrating when a patient of mine passed in the middle of the night and I know the patient was religious so I wanted to respect them and tried calling for a chaplain to come in, but apparently they are not available past like 4 or 5 week days and none available on nights and weekends. -ratios: most of the time were 4 or 5 per nurse most of the time, but there were times the floor pushed us to have 6 a few times and one time 7. I informed the house supervisor, floor's supervisor, and director, but none of them seemed to care. Sometimes the floor supervisor would come to help. -the ED is tiny, like 13ish beds? which wasn't bad, but the times I went down there (think I was looking for the bladder scan or something), it was eerily calm. Maybe I just caught them on a good day Overall, I would go back mainly because my fellow nurses and CNA's were wonderful, equipment and charting were nice and cafe was open later than most hospital cafes.
