This is probably one of the best assignments in IR as a travel RN. Staff are very helpful, patients are not bad. You see and get to do a lot of procedures. The pay could be better however that can fluctuate depending on which agency you are with.

Overview 
6 Tower is a Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intermediate Care Post-Surgical unit that provides comprehensive nursing care to patients requiring less monitoring than ICU, but more than a Medical-Surgical unit.  Nurses on 6T have the opportunity to provide care to a wide array of patients undergoing various surgical procedures including, but not limited to, coronary artery bypass grafts, heart valve repairs and replacements, thoracic and aortic aneurysm repairs, lobectomies, VATS, advanced wound therapies, limb amputations, peripheral vascular bypass grafts and diagnostic cardiac catheterizations. In addition, the clinical nurse on 6T experiences the management of drains, tubes, invasive lines, interprets cardiac rhythms and initiates and monitors cardiac drips. Job Summary

Maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the population of patients served.

3B Observation Unit is a 22 bed, med-surg unit, specializing in observation status patients whose acuity is consistent with cardiac telemetry. Our Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 6:1, however there are often times where 5:1 is the experience. We see a broad array of patient diagnosis including: Chest pain, TIA/CVA rule out, GI post ERCP, IR post chemo embolization and UAE, Behavioral Health holds needing medical clearance, post catheterizations without interventions, and Long-term care med adjustment patients. Nurses are supported by 2 HCT’s and a charge nurse. The Short Stay team on 3B at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center is a very supportive team that tends to lean on each other during the busiest of times in this fast-paced environment.
