Special Duty Nurse JOB STATUS: UNTIL FILLED POSTING DATE: 08/21/2024 POSTING NUMBER: 00006756 LOCATION: Admin Services Group POSITION TITLE: Special Duty Nurse JOB DESCRIPTION: PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under supervision and direction, provide specialized physical health care procedures for severely disabled students, assist nursing personnel in managing the physical health conditions of students, and maintain student health records. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: * Implement Individual Healthcare Plan/Individual Education program developed by campus nurse and ARD committee. * Maintain daily logs of all nursing procedures performed and focused assessments conducted. * Maintain records required for Medicaid billing. * Collaborate with campus nurse, classroom teacher, and appropriate administrators on student needs. * Comply with state regulations, Texas Nurse Practice Act, and Texas Medical Practice Act for the safe administration of medication and special procedures to students. Enforce state regulations, district policies and department protocols for the safe administration and security of medications. * Maintain the safety and security of medications, first aid supplies, and equipment. * Communicate any medical concerns regarding student to campus nurse and/or appropriate administrators so those individuals to follow-up with parents and/or other medical professionals as needed. * Assist with child protective investigations. * Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. * Present a positive role model that supports the mission of school health services and the mission of the school district. * Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors. * Demonstrate behavior that is ethical and responsible. * Develop skills appropriate to the job assignment. * Perform other duties as assigned. * Assist classroom teacher with other needs if not directly involved with medical procedures/treatments. * All federally funded incumbents of the position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports, or periodic certification, as appropriate. * Maintain confidentiality; discuss student, personnel and other work related information with authorized personnel in appropriate setting only. * Perform related duties as required. SUPERVISORY REPONSIBILITIES: None WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Tools/Equipment Used: Standard medical clinic equipment; special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals. Health care equipment normally associated with school clinics, including thermometer, nebulizer, peak flow meter, pulse oximeter, glucometer, audiometer, eye chart, telephone system, personal computer, printer and copier, as well as equipment associated with specialized health services approved under board policy. Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension Lifting: Required to stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl Frequent light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (100 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students. Environment: Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress Other: Work as a team member and with peers, teachers, campus personnel and principals. Professional demeanor, and resourcefulness, communicate effectively with diverse groups and accept supervision. Work without day-to-day supervision. Regular and punctual attendance in the workplace. Required lifting of/or physically supporting children. Frequent district-wide travel. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy on Evaluations.
