Nurse Supervisor I

The Governor Morehead School for the Blind (GMS) provides residential and day educational programs to blind and/or visually impaired students, ages five to 22 years. Governor Morehead School strives to offer specialized educational opportunities, community outreach, and an immersive environment for North Carolina students with visual impairments and additional disabilities. Through unique and expert instruction, GMS creates a dynamic and inclusive environment for students to reach their highest potential in developing knowledge, skills, confidence, and values that will support them as independent, life-long learners to contribute to our global society. GMS: Nurture, Innovate, Challenge, Empower GMS serves students across the state of North Carolina through K-12 enrollment, outreach short-term events, and summer school programs. The campus is in Raleigh, NC. We are actively recruiting for a Nurse Supervisor I. This position provides direct care and is responsible for ensuring 24-hour care Sunday evening through Friday noon for approximately 50 students who are blind or visually impaired at the Governor Morehead School. Position serves as Director of the Student Health Center and is responsible for student records; medical supplies and equipment; communication with families, school staff, contract providers (OT, PT, speech, psychiatrist, telemed services); supervision of 2nd and 3rd shift nurses; develop good working relationships with other agencies/providers that might serve as supports to GMS students, e.g. temporary staffing agencies, adolescent treatment programs, health issues as well as specific student health issues. Work schedule for this position is M-F 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; however, employee must be flexible to work occasional evening hours when needed. Employee may be asked to accompany students on occasional field trips, which could include overnight stays.To receive credit for all of your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form. Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following: * Knowledge of current nursing practices; medical terminology, body systems, and/or diagnostic procedures, and/or medical conditions particularly related to students from 6 - 21 years of age. * Experience and/or knowledge of state and federal laws/regulations regarding student records, medical care provided to school-age students, and/or other areas that would apply to operation of a 24-hour student health center. * Experience in providing clear and effective verbal and/or written communication. * Experience with using MS Office products (Word, TEAMS, etc.). * Experience assessing student health situations to develop plan of action and/or involve appropriate individuals. * Experience working as a positive and effective member of an interdisciplinary team, establish productive relationships with external providers/contractors, families, resource agencies. * Experience supervising staff and/or arranging for coverage when there is an absence. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of nursing experience. Management Preference: * Prefer graduation from an Accredited School of Nursing and five years clinical experience in the Nursing Profession. Prefer experience working with students (K-12) with disabilities. * Preference will be given to applicants with supervisory experience.
