Registered Nurse (RN) â€" LDRP
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE The Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable for utilizing the nursing process to provide safe, age-appropriate, direct and indirect patient care, while practicing within the scope of practice of the Oregon State Board of Nursing. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION The LDRP team offers labor, delivery and recovery including post partum and newborn care by a highly trained team of nurses and medical staff in a family centered caring and medically safe environment. All sites are trained in GYN surgical care. EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS Current unencumbered Oregon RN license required. Healthcare Provider Level BLS required. PCH LDRP: Basic Fetal Monitoring skills required. NRP required within six (6) months of hire. STABLE required within one (1) year of hire. Previous experience in Labor and Delivery preferred. Will train qualified RN with perinatal experience. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Social Perceptiveness: Ability to work with a diverse population from pediatrics to geriatrics. Basic understanding of age-related differences in caring for and/or communicating with patients and caregivers. Possess personal sensitivity to the needs and experiences of others and a non-judgmental attitude towards persons of differing standards, values, lifestyles, and ages. Adaptability/Flexibility: Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to situations that may arise with high risk or diverse patient populations. Ability to adjust actions in relation to others and adapt treatment to offer best possible care to patients. Time Management: Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work to complete within required time frames and to follow-up on pending issues. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in dynamic fast-paced environments and under pressure. Communication: Effective written and oral communication skills to explain complex issues, exchange information between team members, and tactfully discuss issues. PCH LDRP All: Ability to function effectively in crisis situations. Possess critical, independent thinking skills. Basic knowledge of lactation and the initiation of breastfeeding. Knowledge of perinatal emergency alarms. PCH Labor and Delivery: Knowledge of the physical and psychological changes of pregnancy, birth and the immediate postpartum period for the mother and her neonate. Ability to initiate appropriate interventions in caring for the family during the immediate newborn period, accepts responsibility for actions. Possess assessment skills specific to the high risk pregnancy. Ability to initiate an intravenous line. Basic knowledge of pharmacodynamics of anesthesia and analgesia. PCH Nursery: Knowledge of the physical and psychological changes of the neonate immediately after birth, and during the newborn period. Ability to initiate appropriate interventions in caring for the family during the immediate newborn period. Possess assessment skills specific to the high risk neonate. PCH Postpartum Gynecological Unit: Knowledge of the physical and psychological changes of pregnancy, birth and the immediate postpartum period for the mother and her neonate.
