GENERAL SUMMARY The Nurse Manager will have the responsibility for organizing and overseeing the nursing functions of Crisis Services, Substance Abuse, Behavioral Health and Primary Care, ensuring the care, meets high quality standards. In addition, the Nurse Manager is responsible for several administrative responsibilities, including performance improvement, staff development, policy and procedure initiation and updating, and strict adherence to regulatory requirements related to accreditation. The Nurse Manager will provide skills training for all new nursing staff to assure competency and maintain a high standard of care, work with all divisions to provide additional training as needed, provide nursing coverage in emergency situations to maintain patient safety and assure all nursing staff is working within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning essential duties not listed herein if such duties relate to the position. * Assists in planning, implementing, evaluating the delivery of overall nursing care to patients for inpatient/outpatient behavioral health settings. * Assists in processing bi-weekly nursing payroll (shift differentials and/or overtime). * Assists the team and providers in delivery of patient care and cooperates with nursing, clinical and provider staff to resolve all emergent patient or nursing issues in a timely manner. * Completes annual evaluations for nursing staff and attends meetings for department or position. * Conducts and maintains nursing staff meetings. * Develops and implements staffing plan for shifts based on patient acuity, patient census and available staff. * Ensures appropriate orientation of new employees and provides continuous training and development of clinical staff to meet the changing needs of organizational demands. * Oversees the staffing and management of patient care in respective unit on a 24-hour basis. * Participates in all programs, licensure, and other external audits and in the preparation of Corrective Action Plans (CAPs). * Participates in recruitment, selection and hiring process for nursing positions. Proactively participates in employee mentoring, coaching and discipline. * Promotes highest quality standards of patient care by appropriately managing patient flow. * Promotes staff educational opportunities and coordinates training when applicable. * Promotes the practice of professional nursing in a specified patient care area and for the acquisition, development, and utilization of resources needed to fulfill responsibilities. * Provides managerial supporting along with the director of Nursing by supervising and evaluating all of the nursing personnel on the unit. * Provides patient care based on the needs of the unit including substituting for an RN/LVN as needed utilizing appropriate uniform and PPE. * Provides support and training to the staff encouraging their abilities to effectively provide service and patient care. * Provides timely follow-up and communication to employees. * Provides total supervision in the absence of the Director of Nursing. * Serves as a resource to staff for solving problems. * Works collaboratively with the Behavioral Health and Primary Care staff to support operations and trains the clinic nursing team to ensure efficient flow of the patients visiting the clinic. * Works cooperatively with administrators, physicians, staff, managers, and all customers of CHCS to provide services that consistently meet or exceed customer expectations. * Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience * BSN Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited university with two (2) years' experience or, * Associates Degree in Nursing from an accredited university with four (4) years' experience. Licenses or Certifications * Current Registered Nurse License to practice in the State of Texas Other Requirements * Behavioral Competencies: Self-motivated: energetic, self-starter; can work independently with limited direction. * Evidence of continued professional development (i.e. additional education, training, certifications, courses, conferences attended and webinars). * Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping and getting on and off the floor without assistance. * Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) is a proven safe and harm-free method of behavior modification. All consumer-facing employees of CHCS must take NCI courses facilitated by the CHCS Training team within the first 45 days of employment. * NCI is intended to support human service professionals in giving aggressive, disruptive, or out-of-control people the best care and welfare possible, even in the most violent situation. * NCI training provides staff with the skills to safely recognize and respond to everyday crisis situations that may involve more challenging behaviors. It focuses on prevention and offers proven strategies for safely defusing anxious, hostile or violent behavior at the earliest possible stage. * Must maintain a valid driver's license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of the Company's auto insurance carrier if you drive your vehicle during company business. * Must maintain required and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all State regulations and CHCS policies. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Masters of Science Degree in Nursing or higher earned degree from an accredited university. * PHM-BC - Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC) * CNML - The Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) * Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) SUPERVISION * Work requires managing and monitoring work performance by directing multiple groups of employees across more than one business function, including making final decisions on hiring and disciplinary actions, evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness, and realigning work and staffing assignments, as needed.
