School Nurse JobID: 962 Position Type: Nurses Date Posted: 5/31/2024 Location: Canton High/Middle School Date Available: August 26, 2024 Closing Date: until filled Additional Information: Show/Hide Canton Public Schools 2024-2025 School Year Canton Middle/High School (Grades 7 through 12) School Nurse Full-time, Ten Months - 186 days per year 8 hours per day, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Start date - August 26, 2024 Qualifications: Certification/Education/License/Experience: * Provide routine and emergency school health care * Recent experience working with the pediatric population, preferably in a community setting * Knowledge of g-tube feeding and Tracheostomy care strongly preferred * Medication administration * Implement all federal, state and local screening mandates and laws * Assist in planning the health care of the special needs students by developing individual health care plans/ Section 504 accommodations * Strong organizational skills * Collaboration with parents and school personnel * Must meet qualifications for a school nurse as defined in Connecticut Education Regulations Section 10-210-2 * Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current & valid license to practice in the State of Connecticut * Bachelor of Science with an additional 12 credits of learning preferred. * Experience in a school setting as a Registered Nurse within the 5 years immediately prior to employment * Current CPR/AED Certification required * Computer database skills are a definite asset in moving toward a proactive total health program for children through the collection, analysis and utilization of health and educational information Working Conditions: Typical Physical Demands: Requires occasional lifting of greater than 80 pounds, often combined with bending and turning. Requires ability to walk up and down stairs. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal limits. Requires use of office equipment such as computers, telephones, fax machine, and copy machines. Requires use of medical equipment in the clinical setting. Requires eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires frequent prolonged standing, walking and ability to perform physical labor for up to an 8 hour day. Typical Working Conditions: Work is performed in a school setting. Contact with students, families, school administration and staff, health professionals, physicians, police, clergy, ambulance crews, pharmacists, vendors, and volunteers. May be required to work with uncooperative and combative students. Exposure to communicable disease, medicinal preparations and toxic substances in the school setting. Employment Requirements: Knowledge of nursing theory and practice. Knowledge and competency in the nursing process, quality assurance, infection control. Ability to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document care and instruction. Demonstrates personal integrity and empathy and fosters such in others. Education: Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing Program BSN from accredited college or university Certification/Licensure: Current Connecticut License in good standing as a Registered Nurse.
