Respiratory Therapist II


The Department of Respiratory Therapy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Respiratory Therapist II. The successful candidate will: * Provide respiratory care for Adult, Pediatric, & Neonatal patients under the direction of a physician. * Make rounds to determine if patient is receiving proper respiratory care. * Conduct ventilator management. * Draw and analyze blood for arterial blood gases. * Record the respiratory status of all patients. * Assist physicians in ventilating patients who can not sustain their own respiratory function during cardio-respiratory arrests. * Respond to all cardiac arrests and rapid response calls (may include L&D for high risk deliveries). * Provide sputum induction. * Administer Nitric Oxide Therapy. * Explain the use of respiratory care devices to patients and/or family members and assist in the use thereof. * Make entries in patient's electronic medical record. * Assist with education of other disciplines such as nursing and house staff. * Clean and decontaminate equipment once removed from patient use. * Provide chest physio-therapy and assist in pulmonary lavage/suctioning. * Will provide coverage as needed to all age groups and patient care areas (dependent on experience and certifications). Required Qualifications: * Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy or graduate of a 2-year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program. * Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). * New York State Respiratory Therapist Licensure. * BLS (to be obtained within 1-year of employment). * NRP required to work NICU. Preferred Qualifications: * Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
