Job Location Duke Orthopaedics Arringdon - Duke Health Center Arringdon - 5601 Arringdon Park Dr - Morrisville, NC Job Summary We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the Duke Department of Orthopaedics at the Urgent Care clinic located in Duke Orthopaedics Arringdon (near Durham, NC) as well as the possibility of other clinic sites in the future to provide direct patient care services. The APP providing services in the urgent care is functioning with autonomy with physician support. The urgent care is open seven days a week with the providers having a rotating schedule. This includes evenings, weekends and holidays. Job Duties and Responsibilities * Provide care for patients needing urgent orthopaedic care as well as subacute and chronic conditions. The urgent care provider will also evaluate post-operative patients experiencing acute issues. * Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies including advanced imaging. * Formulation of a diagnosis and treatment plan with implementation of the plan with understanding by the patient. * Education of learners rotating in the department and urgent care. * Telephone support to the primary care clinics as well as primary care urgent care clinics. * Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers as needed. * Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients' condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues. * Respond to patient inquiries and concerns via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and be accessible to consult with supervising physician as needed. * Analyze clinical practice patterns to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency. * Refer orthopaedic urgent care patients to other services as needed to meet the needs of the patients. Experience * 2+ years of General Orthopaedics Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant work experience. * Experience working as a Nurse Practitioner of Physician Assistant in an Orthopaedic urgent care setting. * The APP candidate should be comfortable with autonomy in clinical practice treating both adult and pediatric patients. * Technical skills should include injections, splinting and casting. Job Eligibility Requirements Education * Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing. * Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred. Certification BLS required. License * Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment. * Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. * DEA license required Job Hours The urgent care is open seven days a week with the providers having a rotating schedule.
