Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Neurology, Epilepsy - Full Time

The APRN will provide high-quality inpatient care by collaborating with the general neurology and epilepsy teams. The primary responsibility will be to facilitate efficient patient management, particularly focusing on consults from the emergency room (ER) to reduce emergency department cycle time and assist with epilepsy consultations throughout the hospital. The APRN will also support continuity of care for patients post-discharge by seeing them in the hospital discharge care continuity clinic. JOB FUNCTIONS ER Consultations: * Respond to consults from the emergency department, especially during the second shift when fewer personnel are available, and the volume of consults is higher per available data. * Work to reduce ER cycle time by promptly assessing and evaluating patients. * Coordinate with general neurology and epilepsy services to streamline patient admissions and transitions to appropriate care. Hospital Epilepsy Consultations: * Conduct epilepsy consultations throughout the hospital, including inpatient floors and ICU. * Present patient assessments and recommendations to the epilepsy attending on service. * Assist in developing and managing care plans for epilepsy patients in collaboration with the attending physician and the epilepsy team. * Help streamline the EMU and Epilespy surgical programs Care Coordination: * Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds for neurology and epilepsy patients, offering insights and recommendations on patient care. * Ensure effective communication and care coordination between the neurology and epilepsy services, the patient, and other hospital departments. Discharge and Continuity of Care: * See patients in the hospital discharge care continuity clinic to ensure a smooth transition post-discharge. * Collaborate with the care team to manage follow-up care plans and address any issues arising post-hospitalization. * Monitor patient outcomes and adjust care plans as necessary to optimize patient recovery. Documentation and Compliance: * Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters, assessments, and care plans. * Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations governing APRN practice. * Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and reducing unnecessary delays in the ER, hospitalization and length of stay, as well as hospital discharge process. Education and Training: * Provide education to patients and families regarding epilepsy management, medications, and follow-up care. * Mentor and educate nursing staff, residents, and other healthcare professionals about inpatient neurology and epilepsy management. * Participate in continuing education to remain current with best practices in neurology and epilepsy care. QUALIFICATIONS Education: * Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited program. Certification and Licensing: * Current certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with a focus on Neurology or a related specialty. * Active state APRN license and prescriptive authority. Experience: * Minimum of 2 years of experience in neurology, epilepsy, or acute inpatient care (preferred).
