Infection Control Manager, Department of Student Health and Wellness


The Department of Student Health and Wellness (SHW) Infection Control Manager is responsible for -compliance with infection control standards, pre-entrance health requirements for university students, coordinating with SOM and SON for infection control needs unique to students learning in healthcare settings, and organizing quality improvement activities related to the aforementioned activities. The Infection Control Manager is responsible for: Infection Control : Serves as a SHW Infection Control Committee Chair. Develops and maintains infection control policies and procedures. Serves as member of the UVA Health Infection Prevention & Control Committee based on organizational needs. Maintains Infection Control certification; required within 3 years of hire. Oversees all aspects of Infection Control for the department, including infection control rounds, housekeeping rounds, hand hygiene audits, annual training for bloodborne pathogens, annual review of sharps devices, and safe injection practice audits. Coordinates with the workplace safety manager to perform Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) prior to demolition or construction in the building. Coordinates with public health partners (ex. VDH, TJHD, UVA Health Epidemiology). Ensures timely reporting of all reportable diseases in accordance with law and regulation. Immunizations: Oversees pre-entrance health requirements compliance for university students. Reviews and publishes pre-entrance health form(s) on annual basis, or more often as needed. Coordinates with SHW staff to ensure that immunization compliance tools (ex. Medicat Immunization Compliance Manager) are accurate and effective. Monitors process for medical and religious exemptions. Works with epidemiology to clearly identify un-vaccinated populations. Serves as clinical advisor for the implementation of an interface between VIIS and the SHW electronic medical record and routinely evaluates options that enhance the management of the immunization record. Maintains dashboards and other reports regarding immunization compliance and updates department managers and directors. Plans and coordinates mass vaccination clinics, such as influenza, when needed to meet the needs of university students. Health Professions students : Participates in the UVA Health Occupational Health Workgroup. Understands the occupational health requirements of UVA Health and other organizations where SON/SOM students and other applicable student populations may perform healthcare training rotations. Works with UVA Health and other organizations to ensure requirements are met. Coordinates with SOM and SON for infection control needs unique to students learning in healthcare settings, such as immunizations, health screenings, furloughs, and management of blood and body fluid exposures. Provides annual influenza vaccine compliance and other data to the schools and to UVA Health as needed. Quality Improvement : Performs infectious disease surveillance. Plans, organizes, and reports on quality improvement activities as related to scope of responsibility. Investigates and resolves alerting events, patient complaints, and other issues that relate to scope of responsibility. Clinical: Maintains competency/proficiency with vaccine administration and provides additional support to the vaccine clinic during high-demand periods. Provides patient care as RN within SHW. Other: Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Graduate of accredited nursing program, Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Experience: Three years of relevant experience. Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Certification: Maintains Infection Control certification; required within three years of hire. The anticipated salary range will be $90,000-110,000 commensurate with education and experience. This is an exempt level, benefited position.
