Position Type: Substitute/Nurse (RN / LVN) Date Posted: 7/1/2024 Location: Anticipated Vacancies &nbsp&nbspAdditional Information: Show/Hide Spring Branch Independent School District Job Description Substitute Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Job Title: Substitute Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Reports To: Building Principal/Director of Special Education Classification: Substitute Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Days N/A Salary: See Compensation Plan - Substitutes Contract: None Date Revised: 1/30/2024 Primary Purpose: Responsible for the implementation of individual student health plans which is designed to serve the learner through the delivery of preventive care, provision of health education and the promotion of a healthful school environment. Qualifications/Skills: Education/Certification: * Graduate of an accredited professional L.V.N. nursing education program. * Hold or pursue certification on basic first aide and cardio pulmonary resuscitation. Special Knowledge/Skills: * Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects. * Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. * Ability to implement policies and procedures. * Ability to use the computer. * Ability to communicate effectively ( verbal and written). * Ability to physically transfer students with limited mobility. Other: * Experience in community health or school nursing. * One year experience in health related position preferred including contact with school age students. * Completion of fingerprints through IdentoGo (fee incurred by applicant). Major Duties and Responsibilities: Nursing Services: * Work under the direct and indirect guidance and direction of a licensed registered nurse. * Provide direct care utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process and established school health protocols to student(s) according to district policy. * Carry out specialized health care procedures as trained and directed by school nurse. * Serve as health advocate for students. Notify the campus school nurse of accident or illness. * Secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached). Administer medications to student (s) at school. Administer medications according to district policy and procedures. * Assist the RN in the preparation in health management plans, implement health plans, and provide clinical case management for students who are medically fragile and/or have specialized health care needs. Assist with personal care needs of students as required. (e.g. toileting, feeding) as directed by the school nurse or certified teacher. * Assist with screening activities including weight/height, testing vision/hearing, scoliosis, lice screening and Type II Diabetes screening (Acanthosis Nigricans). * Use Universal precautions Procedures when cleaning all body spills and providing wound care. SHARS recording/billing and medical record keeping. * Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, state and local public health rules, and board policy in health services area. * Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPPA guidelines. Instruction: * Educate faculty and staff as needed on health related topics. * Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students. * Assist the school nurse in developing a health management plan and provide clinical case management for students who are medically fragile and/or have specialized health care needs. * Possess knowledge, skills and abilities to assist classroom staff in integrating specialized health care services in an instructional setting. Consultation: * Serve as a primary member of the school crisis intervention team. * Assist in assessing student problems and make appropriate referrals working with students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals as needed. * Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, crisis team, and school committees and develops Individual Health Plan when requested by the campus Nurse or campus administration. * Collaborate with other professionals regarding implementation of health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items. * Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse. * Make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary with permission of principal. * Communicate regularly with principal, health services coordinator, school counselor, teachers, parents, food services and other staff regarding health services issues. Administration: * Review and implement individual health plans. * Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students. * Requisition supplies and equipment. * Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area. * Report potential health and safety hazards to principal. * Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. * Support the district mission by participating in campus improvement planning, school-based activities and district staff development and provide leadership in the formulation and implementation of campus health program goals. Academic Support: * Provide academic supports under the guidance of a certified teacher. Professional Development: * Maintain certification in CPR, vision and hearing screening and as a health screener. * Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Other: * Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Equipment Used: Thermometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision screening equipment, thermoscan, basic clinic equipment, computer and copier. Working Conditions: Mental Demands: * Maintain emotional control under stress. * Work with frequent interruptions. * This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public. Physical Demands: * Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. * Physical capacity to lift, transfer and otherwise assist students with physical disabilities (e.g. ability to lift 50 lbs.).
