Sr. Professional Staff Nurse, PACU


UPMC Hamot is hiring a Sr. Professional Staff to join the PACU! This position is part-time: two 10-hour shifts per week, with occasional on-call coverage. Previous nursing experience required. Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience. Overview: The Senior Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse who plays a key role in the care delivery team. They set care standards, manage patient care, and ensure quality nursing. This role involves leadership, collaboration, and supervision, working closely with physicians, healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve optimal patient outcomes. They also demonstrate a strong commitment to the community and the nursing profession. Responsibilities: * Applies the nursing process within Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. * Formulates daily goals and care plans with patients as partners, considering their holistic needs. * Practices solid communication skills, articulating patient conditions and negotiating care changes. * Ensures comprehensive patient documentation to promote caregiver communication. * Demonstrates critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues. Incorporates goals from national organizations and health systems to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction. * Builds healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues for a compassionate experience. * Identifies opportunities for clinical quality and workplace improvement. * Regularly applies evidence-based practice. Leads or participates in teams launching patient care innovations or supporting a healthy workforce. * Analyzes situations to identify learning opportunities and seeks feedback for continuous improvement. * Supports continuous learning by sharing research and presenting on the unit. * Serves as a role model in areas like clinical expertise, teaching, and evidence-based practice. * Provides feedback to healthcare team members and participates in peer review. Promotes changes enhancing patient care quality and unit environment. * Maintains work-life balance through prioritization and delegation. * Actively participates in shared governance and hospital-wide councils. Passionately develops others, precepting students, graduate nurses, and new hires. * Builds and mends relationships within a healthy workplace framework. Role models cultural awareness and addresses horizontal violence and impairment. Qualifications: * Minimum 2 years of experience. BSN preferred. * Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care and interact appropriately with patients of various ages. * Understand principles of growth and development over the lifespan. * Assess and interpret data to identify age-specific patient needs. * Provide care as described in department policies and procedures. * Maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluations. * Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. * Work productively and effectively in a complex environment with multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. * Exhibit exemplary clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. * Lead others in applying the nursing process. Mobility and visual manual dexterity. * Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients. * Annual completion of professional contributions selected from department, hospital, or system goals, approved by Unit Director. * UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained, or certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held. If BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may substitute for certification. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: * Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. * Registered Nurse (RN) * UPMC approved nursing certification preferred. * Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
