Primarily focused on ED throughput. Facilitates all areas of ED. Render professional nursing care to a group of assigned patients within the hospital. Collaborates with the medical staff and other members of the health care team to provide quality patient care. Performs all activities in accordance with approved policies and guides. Supervises and delegates appropriate duties to ancillary personnel. Essential Functions: 1. Primarily focused on ED throughput. Facilitates all areas of ED operation on a daily shift basis to achieve optimum patient flow through the department. Assures timely EMS off-loading timely rapid initial assessment, accurate triage of patients, appropriate placement of patients in the department, high quality patient care, efficient patient flow info and out of the department, and attainment of patient safety and quality of care program goals.2. Serves as the Team Leader to ensure efficient operation of the department.3. Serves as a resource and mentor for staff in the clinical area.4. Assumes responsibility for decisions and actions in the lead clinical role.5. Assures departmental checks are computed as assigned.6. Leads staff briefs and debriefs on a daily shift basis. Holds staff huddles as required/needed.7. Assures bedside shift report is completed with changes in on-coming/off-going staff.8. Acts as liaison between ED and other hospital departments.9. Provides opportunities for employee development.10. Communicates effectively with staff, peers, external and internal customers.11. Monitors productivity and adjusts staffing to volumes.12. Utilizes quality improvement as basis to improve department processes.13. Assists with thorough and complete orientation of all incoming personnel, utilizing the department orientation plan and ensuring all aspects of the orientation process are completed in a timely manner.14. Maintains readiness for regulatory surveys.15. Demonstrates Clinical competence to practice within the department' scope of service.16. Communicates effectively with leadership, staff, peers, and physicians.17. Assists with departmental CQI program, outcomes management projects, and other hospital initiatives in compliance with Federal, State, and Joint Commission regulatory/accreditation bodies. Functions effectively as a team member, triage, charge nurse and preceptor.18. Completes addition responsibilities as assigned by Department Director. Ex. Staff schedule, attendance tracking, time keeping, audits, supply ordering.19. Pursues own professional growth and development.20. Other duties as assigned. Minimum EducationAssociate's Degree in Nursing requiredBachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Certifications:Basic Life Support (BLS)Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 3 months of hirePediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 3 months of hireHandle with care within 3 months of hire Licenses: Current RN license to practice in NC (NC licensure or multi-state (compact) license).
