Position Responsibilities: * Demonstrates ability to interpret chemotherapy orders accurately (calculates BSA and ANC correctly). * Performs double-check of chemotherapy orders utilizing patient identifiers. * Demonstrates proficiency in the safe administration of chemotherapy and disposal of chemotherapy wastes and equipment as per ONS guidelines. * Completes nursing documents accurately and in a timely manner following Joint Commission standards. * Provides patient education and documents appropriately using the approved documentation forms. * Demonstrates the ability to identify signs and symptoms of oncologic emergencies and provide management appropriately and immediately. * Assesses and reassesses patient complaint of pain and document findings. * Identify acute local and systemic reactions as a result of extravasation or anaphylaxis in association with specific chemotherapy drugs and appropriate interventions. * Attends annual mandatory inservices. Achieves and maintains certification in specialty area. * Delegates patient care responsibilities to assigned care givers based upon patient and staff competencies. * Demonstrates a calm, professional manner during a crisis or emergency situation at all times within patient care environment. * Follows approved protocol in receiving critical results and performing timely and accurate communication and follow-up. * Actively participates in survivorship program of the center. * Safely and correctly initiates and documents nursing interventions in emergency situations. * Administers, observes, and documents intravenous therapy according to hospital policy. * Administers medications and observes and documents effectiveness. Recognizes and reports adverse reactions immediately. * Provides individualized instructions/education to patient/significant other regarding the plan of care. * Demonstrates safe and correct use of unit specific equipment. * Ensures that each patient's general hygiene needs are met. * Performs pre-operative and post operative care and instruction for each assigned patient. * Adheres to standard precautions including hand hygiene guidelines at all times. * Documents specific patient valuables on designated form when received and immediately arranges for appropriate storage. * Performs dressing changes using aseptic technique. * Collects and labels specimens per policy when ordered by physician. * Reports all abnormal findings immediately to physician( critical lab reporting). * Inserts intermittent or indwelling urinary catheter using aseptic technique. * Administers oxygen therapy according to physician order. * Performs new patient orientation; tours new patient to department. * Documents/reports patient responses or outcomes resulting from: nursing interventions, treatments/procedures, interpersonal interactions, and patient/family education. * Evaluates and documents patient's progress towards established goals/objectives. * Updates/revises patient care problem list and individualized patient care standards, protocols and procedures based on patient/family responses, progress towards goals, and/or change in medical status. * Participates in completing Survivorship Summary and Care Plan and presenting to patient. * Obtains 100% mandatory hospital and unit specific in-services annually, prior to evaluation date. * Plans, presents, and documents unit in-service as required by level. * Documents competency in clinical skills annually. * Attends staff meetings as required. * Uses established lines of communication for resolution of problems and interpersonal conflict. * Ensures productivity daily by delegating assignments to immediate subordinates at the beginning of the shift and evaluates completion of duties assigned. * Participates in PI program by identifying PI indicators of major aspects of care at the unit level. * Collects PI data as assigned. * Documents and charges supplies used daily. Qualifications: * Current FL Nursing License and Current BLS required * Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
